OKLAHOMA CITY -- From providing rental help to low-income families to offering down payment assistance to homebuyers and spurring community development, the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency celebrates its 50-year legacy of opening doors in communities across the state.
The OHFA Board of Trustees recognized the milestone as part of its May 13 meeting.
Deborah Jenkins, executive director, announced that Gov. Kevin Stitt had proclaimed May 13 as Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency Day in Oklahoma. Stitt’s proclamation recognizes the agency’s historic achievements and continued dedication to innovative housing solutions.
"Today's proclamation recognizes OHFA's longevity and the collective effort behind it," said Jenkins. "Our partners — lenders, real estate professionals, developers, investors, nonprofits, and dedicated staff and board members — have carried this mission for 50 years."
OHFA Board of Trustees Chairman Mike Buhl echoed Jenkins’ sentiments.
“For 50 years, OHFA has been a steady partner in helping Oklahomans build stability and hope,” Buhl said. “Today, we honor the agency’s legacy and the thousands of lives strengthened through vital housing initiatives.”
In the past five decades, OHFA’s programs have delivered measurable results, including:
- Assisting more than 800,000 renters through rental assistance programs
- Providing down payment and closing cost assistance to more than 70,000 homebuyers
- Supporting the creation of nearly 40,000 rental units through federal and state housing tax credits, including 6,000 through the Oklahoma Affordable Housing Act
- Creating or preserving nearly 6,600 for-sale and rental units and assisting more than 3,000 homebuyers through the HOME Investment Partnerships Program
- Delivering nearly 1,000 for-sale and rental homes through the Oklahoma Housing Stability Program
“These numbers represent real people, real families, and real futures,” said Jenkins. “Behind every unit built, home purchased, or family assisted is a story of resilience and opportunity. We are proud of that impact.”
As OHFA looks ahead, the agency remains focused on expanding housing access, supporting economic stability, and working alongside partners and communities to ensure Oklahomans have a safe place to call home.
