The Impact of the Government Shutdown

By OHFA Communications

The Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) is committed to supporting the housing stability of the families we serve through its multiple programs. A U.S. federal government shutdown began on October 1, 2025, due to a lapse in appropriations. While OHFA does not control federal funding, we want to provide clear information on how this may affect you and what steps you can take.

OHFA is actively monitoring the situation and advocating for timely federal funding to protect Oklahoma families. We appreciate your patience and will provide further notices as developments occur. Your housing stability is our priority.

THE HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM

What to Expect

Rent Payments: Housing assistance payments (HAP) to landlords should continue without interruption through December 2025.

If the Shutdown Extends: A prolonged shutdown beyond December 2025 could lead to delays in HUD funding to OHFA, potentially affecting HAP disbursements.

No Immediate Eviction Threats: Most families should not face housing loss solely due to the shutdown. Any attempts to evict without cause during this period may violate tenant rights.

What You Should Do: Tenants must continue paying their portion of the rent promptly to avoid any issues with their lease.

PERFORMANCE BASED CONTRACT ADMINISTRATION

The PBCA program will continue to operate uninterrupted through December 2025. Tenants should continue paying their portion of rent.
