OKLAHOMA CITY – Matthew Desmond, 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winning author of the book Evicted, will make his second appearance at an Oklahoma Housing Conference. He will be the featured keynote speaker at the 2022 Oklahoma Housing Conference, September 27-29 at The Reed Conference Center, Midwest City. The Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) is the event’s Presenting Sponsor.
Desmond will be featured during the General Session Luncheon on Wednesday, September 28. Desmond’s presentation will consist of an on-state interview addressing the current eviction crisis in America due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. He received multiple national awards for Evicted, also named one of the Best Books of 2016 by nearly three dozen outlets. His primary teaching and research interests include urban sociology, poverty, race and ethnicity, organizations and work, social theory, and ethnography.
The conference’s sessions for the affordable housing industry will focus on development, home ownership, financing, property management, and the eviction crisis. Required 2022 Fair Housing and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Training will also be available. Other keynote and featured speakers include nationally acclaimed economist, Dr. Elliot Eisenberg (the Bow-Tie Economist), Christie Newhouse, Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, and Stockton Williams, Executive Director, National Council of State Housing Agencies.
